The answer is no, not at all multi level marketing is not illegal in India.

the only thing is you have to see that the company is making their job in ethical and proper way (or) the whole thing is money making scheme or pyramid scheme  who are the company owners and what is the background of the company The main thing is the person whom you thrust and join the company. Very important is the person whom you join is really will to help you after he get sale from you. what is the ratio of the payout scheme and etc....

What is money making scheme?

   Normally the money making scheme are the company which will have their products which worth less  in the market. but they charge more than the open market 

  In this case there is no need to join the company for their product. then you have to join for the business and  business only there is northing in the company's product. then why people have to join you for these kind of company.

What is Pyramid scheme?

   The pyramid scheme is which the company having the product worth for its cost but the binary (or) payout scheme is not worth for working for the comapany and its all the time  waste. Hire the company get the profit but not you, what is the use of doing this kind of job.
